Bay Area communities are taking a stand against gentrification by making their voices heard. Sadly, more and more people and families who are longtime Bay Area residents are being pushed out of their communities. Building luxury homes in areas such as the Mission District in San Francisco and the West Oakland neighborhood will leave many natives without a home. Local governments need to step up and defend our residents from displacement and foster the rich history and culture in these communities instead of replacing the neighborhood with housing that most people can’t afford. Gentrification is not natural and having a place of residence is a human right.
