A comprehensive study by the Silicon Valley Institute for Regional Studies found that the Bay Area has the highest income gap in the country and at $250,000 is 50% higher than the national average. The technology industry in the Silicon Valley is the largest driving force of the income inequality in the Bay Area. Tech company salaries drive up housing prices, and middle-income households unable to afford the cost of living are being driven out of the area.
