Today’s Connecting The Dots #CTD: Poverty

While the city of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County both voted to raise the minimum wage from $9 to $15 by 2020, a recent economic study says that raising the minimum wage will do little to alleviate poverty. The study, conducted by the Los Angeles Economic Development Corp., cited increased prices, slowed employment growth, and a decreased demand for employment caused by the higher wages. Yet the conclusions drawn were very broad and County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl even called the study dishonest, saying the executive summary was biased and more of an opinion piece than a report.
