Today’s Connecting the Dots #CTD- Poverty

Dean Karlan, a Yale University professor, decided to test the effectiveness of global aid using randomized control trials on families living in extreme poverty. Karlan’s experiment revealed that many people were “stuck” in poverty and with a little bit of a support, they were able to improve their quality of life. In order to effectively lift families out of poverty, anti-poverty efforts cannot be universal– the needs are determined by where the individuals live and their lifestyle. The study showed that when families were given the appropriate resources they need to thrive, most families were doing better than before.
