BNSF Railway and Union Pacific, two major railroad companies, filed a lawsuit against a California law requiring the companies to have oil spill response plans. A federal judge has dismissed the lawsuit. Soon all railroad companies will have to implement safety plans and set aside money for potential clean up efforts. The decision comes a month after the Santa Barbara Oil Spill. With the country’s increased fracking, oil is being ground-transported all across the country at an unprecedented rate.
