Today’s Connecting the Dots #CTD- Climate Change:

On Tuesday, June 10th Paul Ryan added an amendment to a customs bill that would impact President Obama’s proposed ‘fast track’ legislation.  His amendment would prohibit using trade agreements as an avenue for policy action on climate change. Many members of the Republican party view the trade deal as a gateway to unchecked presidential power, and are fearful it would give President Obama the opportunity and authority to advance climate change legislation. Ryan’s amendment has garnered outcry from environmental groups (who are also opposed to ‘fast track’) because they believe the provision sends the wrong message about addressing climate change. At CFJC we believe that we need to promote federal climate change action, not stifle it with legislation that was developed as a response to polluter industries’ concern about their profits.
